What is sustainable fishing?
The practice of sustainable fishing helps to improve the health of the seas through a number of selective activities that succeed in limiting marine deterioration, including:
- Sustainable fishing techniques
- Compliance with the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries
- Sustainable production methods and tools
- Use of 100% recyclable packaging and labels
- Transparency in labelling
- Support for local communities
- Respect for the consumer
- Respect for the sea
The anchovies and bluefin tuna used by Armatore are only caught within non-overfished areas during permitted fishing periods.
- Anchovies 15 March – 15 October
- Bluefin tuna 25 May – 30 June
Fishing is only carried out with encircling nets to avoid catching other species that are not needed for processing, so this technique also preserves the seabed by not scraping it with nets.
No FAD (artificial fish aggregation systems) are used, which are highly impacting and harmful to the marine ecosystem because they limit and subsequently eliminate the biodiversity of our precious seas.
Respect for the environment
In addition to respect for the sea Armatore has implemented environmentally sustainable energy production systems, making the factory totally self-sufficient through the use of 100% renewable sources.
